The End of an Era: Andy Rooney The Great Word Smith...

Andy Rooney 

January 14, 1919 – November 4, 2011

For nearly half my life I have watched and enjoyed the very masterful and personable results of this great word smith. His commentaries always made me chuckle at the daily irritations of contemporary society. It was comforting to know that in someways we are all alike, and Andy had just stopped by to visit and tell me the latest. 

I heard one newscaster say this morning, that, in a world of irrelevant texting and chatting and social networks, Andy Rooney used his words wisely and concisely... I think that was true, but the impact of the technology phenomenon yet to be fully understood. Somewhere in this vast virtual frontier, I hope it will produce its own equivalent to an Andy Rooney... 

For the moment however, I am just pausing to put hands to keys to remember, someone who has brought a lot of joy into my life and always - my favorite thing - challenged me to THINK. Au revoir, mon amie.
