The legacy of John Muir is that he not only helped set things in motion for creating and protecting our national park system. He also affirmed the sacred and majestic beauty of God's creation in his writings. What a wonderful reminder, this day we sit aside to celebrate Christ's Resurrection...
I am at once reminiscent of the day I first saw the Grand Canyon. Traveling from California to my new home in Oklahoma by car. I walked to the edge of the Canyon and sit down and cried. "Only God could have sculpted such a thing." I had lived in California for many years, and had flown over the Grand Canyon more than a dozen times. Yet nothing prepared me for that very sacred moment of seeing this mammoth space from the ground. It was easy to understand this morning how Muir's strict Calvinist upbringing melted away in the face of such all inspiring assurance of God's presence in creation.
We are all part of such a grand and wonderful design. Am I still feeling the effects of Tom Shadyac? Probably. We are better than we think we are. Creation was designed for cooperation not competition. We are meant to have a healthy respect for all. I head to church today filled with anticipation. REJOICE! Today we affirm LIFE by God's grace. My joy is complete in HIM, who has called me from darkness into a marvelous LIGHT!
Happy Resurrection Day, or whatever this day/season means for you personally. Enjoy, "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, that's why they call it THE PRESENT."
