BROOKLYN MUSEUM: Part III - Fashion

...My iPhone and blogger being WHO they are, I could not correct all the bugs between the two programs to make all my images upright.... which, in a way, is fitting commentary about Brooklyn fashion -- a mass rich history of style and contradiction from the nineteenth century until now. Still a hub of unique experimentation such as the work of this fiber artist (who's card I lost, so can't tell you her name).

To mark the new relationship between the Brooklyn Museum and the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum presented an exhibition of some of the most renowned objects from its costume collection. American High Style (May 7–August 1, 2010) consisted of approximately eighty-five dressed mannequins and a selection of hats, shoes, sketches, and other fashion-related material that reintroduced the collection, long in storage, to the public... Below are some of my shots of the show to see more (and better images click here).

... particularly love these beautiful miniature Victorian samplers...

One of the fun components of the exhibit was a fashion show of student designers... Really inspiring seeing their thoughts and concepts come to life on the runway...

...During the exhibition, Web and gallery visitors had their own opportunity to remixed fashions from American High Style using Polyvore's virtual styling tool. FUN! have a peek. Click HERE.  The Brooklyn Museum is my NEW favorite place to visit, between exhibits, lovely space, and community outreach, it's a not to be miss stop if you visit the tri-state area...
