....What makes the Brooklyn Museum so fascinating for me is the fact that within such an intimate setting there is much variety style and objects d'art. The above Art Nouveau brass gate being displayed in front of a hot pink wall is but one of the many little surprises that await you at every corner... There is much to inspire....
(Photos below: 1-2,4 Victorian personals, 1) calling card case, opera glasses, needle point hand bags; 2) Sheet music, eye glasses, and lovely leather gloves; 4) and a beautiful French fan; 3) Orange shoes, seems fitting somehow, I am positive Victorians would have loved owning them, could they have found them... this one is part of the many shoes in the current exhibit on Fashion (which will be the subject of the final segment of this series); 5) The museum has entire rooms and sections of buildings built into its interior, amazing period pieces. 6-8) Jewelry of Art Smith, on semi permanent display. 9) Two Paper chairs from Kiki Smith's current exhibit: Sojourn. 10) Art Nouveau chair part of Decorative Arts and Period Rooms Galleries.)

Below is and image of this little dog who seems to have a regular routine of chasing the pulsating fountain in front of the Brooklyn Museum. His owner let him play for the better part of an hour the day we went... In a funny sort of a way, he seemed to fit right in to this segment....
Please stay tuned for my last segment: Fashion in Brooklyn, which inspired the current exhibit at the Brooklyn and Metropolitan Museums. Hopefully that portion will be coming via my good friend Leanora. Photographer, jewelry designer and former Brooklynite, she has a good sense of why the museum thought the subject important enough to curate an exhibit about it.
