Yesterday, I put on my favorite red baseball cap, black high top converse, and a pair of jeans and traveled northwest in a light rain to Lambertville, New Jersey. Situated in the Delaware River Valley, Lambertville’s history goes back to the 1700s, when the City was named after various operators of ferries, which crossed the river from there to Pennsylvania. Ultimately it became known as Coryell's Ferry, after Emanuel Coryell. Coryell's Ferry was the western terminus of the New Jersey portion of the York Road (which is now known as U.S. Highway 202) connecting New York City and Philadelphia. Eventually in the 1800’s Lambertville received it’s current name, in honor of John Lambert, a local resident, who had served as United States Senator and Acting Governor of New Jersey.
I went looking to possibly purchase papermaking supplies from a local artist (who’s card I can’t find just now), but found so much more. I discovered that Lambertville, New Jersey and New Hope, Pennsylvania, just across a walking bridge from each other, are a marvelous day trip for vintage and antique shopping or enjoying a good meal. And did I mention hand made chocolate! OK. So, read through my pages and you’ll see that I am just a sucker for small towns. I admit it. I am a country girl at heart.
…Although the antiques can be on the pricey side, it is definitely a place where serious collectors / decorators can find great variety…. Favorite finds while there: The Peoples Antique Store located at 28 North Union Street, an 1860’s building with dozens of dealers on three floors, which features The Silver Solution – more sterling than I have ever seen in one location. I immediately proposed marriage to the owner. He said fine but we’d all have to move to Utah...

Also on Union Street, further away from town, is British Antiques, which houses high-end furniture (as does many shops in town) and china. British Antiques is also home to two artist’s studios including the woman I went to see. It was simply a lovely day, perhaps two hours away from NYC. With the smell of wisteria blossoms still in my memory I am adding Lambertville as one of my favorite road trips. You can see more of the photos I took by clicking this TEAWINGS ROAD TRIP link, and then clicking on "LAMBERTVILLE, NJ...
